Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Grimlight Studios (“Grimlight Studios,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your access to and use of EchoBorn: The Rift Ascension (the “Game”), including the playable demo, any associated websites, and any updates or downloadable content.

By downloading, installing, accessing, or playing the Game, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Game.

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Game. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Game only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf. By using the Game you represent that you meet these requirements and that the platform store account you use is in good standing.

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, Grimlight Studios grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and play the Game for your own private, non-commercial entertainment on devices you own or control. This license does not transfer any ownership of the Game to you. All rights not expressly granted here are reserved by Grimlight Studios.

EchoBorn is a local-first game. Your progress is stored on your device (in the browser’s IndexedDB storage) and does not require an online account to play. You are solely responsible for safeguarding the data on your device. We are not liable for save data lost to device failure, browser data clearing, uninstallation, or your own actions.

The Game provides save export and import tools so you can back up your progress and move it between devices. We strongly encourage you to export regular backups. Optional cloud sync may be offered in the future; if you enable it, the privacy practices described in our Privacy Policy will apply.

EchoBorn is a pay-once premium game. There is no pay-to-win mechanic and no mandatory in-game currency purchases; an optional one-time account upgrade tier unlocks additional content but never grants an unfair competitive advantage. A free playable demo is available so you can evaluate the Game before purchasing.

All purchases are processed by the platform store through which you obtained the Game (for example, Steam, the Apple App Store, or the Google Play Store). Refunds, billing, and payment disputes are governed by the refund policy and terms of that platform store, not by Grimlight Studios directly. Please review the applicable store’s policy before making a purchase.

You agree that you will not, and will not attempt to:

• cheat, exploit bugs, or use unauthorized third-party automation tools, bots, or macros to gain progress or advantage;
• reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise derive the source code of the Game, except where such restriction is prohibited by law;
• modify, tamper with, or circumvent any security, licensing, or content-gating mechanism;
• distribute, sell, sublicense, rent, or commercially exploit the Game or any part of it; or
• use the Game in any unlawful manner or in a way that infringes the rights of others.

Single-player modification of your own local save for personal use is at your own risk and may break progression, but does not affect other players.

If you submit ideas, suggestions, bug reports, or other feedback about the Game, you grant Grimlight Studios a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and incorporate that feedback into the Game and our products without obligation or compensation to you. We appreciate your input and are under no duty to keep feedback confidential.

The Game and all associated content — including its code, art, characters, lore, music, sound, user interface, trademarks, and the name “EchoBorn: The Rift Ascension” — are owned by Grimlight Studios or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license granted in these Terms, you receive no rights to our intellectual property.

EchoBorn is in active development and a paid early-access release is planned for Steam, iOS, and Android. Early-access and pre-release builds are works in progress: features, balance, content, and systems may be added, changed, or removed, and the Game may contain bugs or incomplete functionality. We may issue updates, patches, or maintenance at any time, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of any online or future cloud features.

THE GAME IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE GAME WILL BE ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR THAT SAVE DATA WILL BE PRESERVED. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THESE EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GRIMLIGHT STUDIOS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROGRESS, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE GAME. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE GAME WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID FOR THE GAME IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

These Terms remain in effect while you use the Game. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms or use the Game unlawfully. You may stop using the Game at any time by uninstalling it and deleting your local save data. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitations of liability — will survive.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts located in Texas will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except where applicable consumer-protection law grants you the right to bring a claim in your home jurisdiction. We may update the governing-law venue as the studio grows; any change will be reflected in an updated version of these Terms.

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Game after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using the Game.
