Privacy Policy

Effective June 11, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Grimlight Studios handles information in connection with EchoBorn: The Rift Ascension. In short: the game is local-first, we collect as little as possible, and we never sell your data.

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

Grimlight Studios built EchoBorn: The Rift Ascension to be a local-first game: it runs and saves entirely on your device by default, and we collect as little personal information as possible. We do not sell your personal data, and we never trade your progress for advertising revenue. This Privacy Policy explains what is stored, what little is transmitted, and the choices you have.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The vast majority of your data never leaves your device. Your game save — including character progress, skill levels, inventory, settings, and preferences — is stored locally in your browser’s IndexedDB storage on the device you play on. We do not have access to this local data.

You control this data entirely. You can export it for backup, import it onto another device, or delete it at any time by clearing the Game’s local storage or uninstalling the Game.

3. Data That May Be Transmitted

In its default local mode, EchoBorn does not transmit your gameplay data to our servers. Limited information may be transmitted only when you actively choose to use an optional online feature — for example, enabling cloud sync or contacting support. Standard technical information (such as your IP address and device type) may be processed transiently by our hosting and platform providers when an online request is made, as is normal for any internet service.

4. No Sale of Personal Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Full stop.

5. Analytics

EchoBorn currently includes no third-party analytics or tracking in its local play mode. If we add analytics in the future to understand aggregate usage and improve the Game, it will be designed to be anonymized and privacy-respecting, and this policy will be updated to describe it before such collection begins.

6. Account Data (Optional Cloud Features)

Cloud accounts are optional and are not required to play. If you choose to create an account to use cloud sync or related features, we use Supabase authentication to manage sign-in. In that case we process the account information you provide — primarily your email address — and the save data you choose to sync. We use this only to operate the cloud features you have enabled, and you can disable cloud sync and continue playing locally at any time.

7. Children's Privacy

EchoBorn is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information through an optional online feature, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Because your save lives on your device, you control its retention: deleting your local saves or uninstalling the Game removes that data from your device immediately and permanently.

If you have an optional cloud account, you may request deletion of your account and any associated synced data by emailing us. We will delete it within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal obligations.

9. Third-Party Platforms

EchoBorn is planned for release on Steam, the Apple App Store, and the Google Play Store. When you purchase or download the Game through one of these platforms, that platform — Valve, Apple, or Google — handles its own payment processing, store account management, and platform telemetry under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your payment-card details. Please review the privacy policy of the platform store you use.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect any data processed through our optional online features. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting the device on which your local save is stored.

11. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

For local save data, you can exercise these rights directly through the Game’s export, import, and delete tools without contacting us. For any optional cloud account data, contact us using the details below and we will respond as required by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
